Team Canada with a tremendous comeback secured a 4-3 victory to win gold, marking the country’s 18th title at the annual under-20 tournament in the last 16 years. Lafrenière played well in the medal round for Canada, picking up two assists in the gold-medal game to finish with 10 points in just five games. He was named the tournament’s MVP and best forward by the International Ice Hockey Federation. Byfield’s minutes where limited as he was youngest player on the roster when Canada won the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship. He finished off with one assist in seven games while skating on the fourth line.
