The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames by the score of 3-0 in the first regular season game of the 2017-18 season. Connor McDavid, the captain of the Oilers, scored all three goals that evening. McDavid became the first player in franchise history to score a hat trick in the home opener. His first goal was scored 11 minutes into the first period on an assist from Leon Draisitl.
