Out of high school, Dereck Lively transitioned to the highly respected Duke University under tremendous pressure as the number one overall recruit. Coming into college hoops with high expectations is no easy task, but that did not stop Lively from shining. His third appearance against a ranked team was one to remember. On November 30th, 2022, Duke University squared off against No. 25 Ohio State University. The Blue Devils dropped their first two games against ranked opponents, and Lively was ready for that to change. It was the first breakout performance of Lively’s young career. He dominated the Buckeyes, scoring 11 points with five rebounds and two blocks. He shot 4-5 from the floor and was a perfect 3-3 from the line. Lively’s special night helped the Blue Devils to victory, winning 81-72. This accomplished performance was the first of many for Lively as he kicked off his basketball career.
