Although the 2018 season finished with the Kingston Frontenacs at the bottom of the OHL standings, a sense of hope and optimism seemed to buzz around Leon’s Centre as the Frontenacs sat in the driver seat of the 2019 OHL Draft. With this number one overall pick, the Frontenacs selected fifteen-year-old Shane Wright, the most highly touted prospect of his class who was even classified as “exceptional” in order to enter the major junior ranks a year early. While Wright demonstrates extreme athleticism and playmaking ability with the puck in his possession, Kingston ultimately drafted the young center with all hopes and expectations of him being able to translate his individual accomplishments to whole team success. Even while playing in a shortened season, Wright was able to do just that as he led the Frontenacs to a playoff qualifying record, broke the Kingston all-time rookie goal record with 39 and was named the 2020 CHL Rookie of the Year.
